mid-week music break: The Very Best
The Very Best, a band fronted by Malawian Esau Mwanyama, is currently on tour in the US. Tickets are still available for a number of their shows (folks in Madison and Chicago, I’m looking at you!). I’ve always been a big fan of their work, but now that I know the meaning behind their new album MTMTMK, I couldn’t help but share it with all of haba na haba’s readers. Listen to Johan Karlberg and Esau Mwanyama talk about MTMTMK:
So, MTMTMK = More To Malawi Than Madonna’s Kids.
For those of you, who like me, sadly cannot make it to one of their shows, I strongly recommend you at least listen to one of their latest releases: Yoshua Alikuti. The song is a metaphor for former Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika. The music video was filmed in Nairobi.
Another single from MTMTMK is Kondaine. The music video was filmed in the Turkana area of northern Kenya.
I really look forward to the music video for the song “We OK” — it’s quite an uplifting number.
Takulandirani ku America, Esau ndi Johan!
