Promising drugs for treatment-experienced patients

27 July 2007

Hey guys. I wanted to let you know about the hottest new drugs about to gain FDA approval for treatment of HIV patients that have failed therapies or developed drug resistant mutations. They’re called integrase inhibitors and they prevent the integration of the HIV into the DNA of a host cell effectively stopping the virus’ ability to replicate (since it’s dependent on the host machinery). It has been the buzz around the lab lately and the big conference in Sydney last week really confirmed the positive results shown in clinical trials. It’s set for distribution pending FDA approval on September 5th. Anyway, thought it was cool that they found a potent drug that has minimal side effects!

Thought I’d share that with you all. Can’t wait to get the East Coast perspective and start school again. Thanks Kim for opening up this forum and it’s great to reconnect with everyone! Susan
