Connecting Slums Through ICTs for Youth Development

17 October 2007

Among the Global Youth Challenge Award winners in Rome this year was the Slums Information Development and Resource Centres (SIDAREC) project. A youth development organization operating within several Nairobi slums, the project aims to facilitate a flow of information at the grassroots level to foster development. SIDAREC

Amongst these channels is Ghetto FM Radio, a station that airs social development messages such as voting education aimed at the youth. Targeting children and youth up to 29 years of age, SIDAREC offers slum residents a cyber café, an online library system and a computer training lab.
