Connecting Slums Through ICTs for Youth Development
Among the Global Youth Challenge Award winners in Rome this year was the Slums Information Development and Resource Centres (SIDAREC) project. A youth development organization operating within several Nairobi slums, the project aims to facilitate a flow of information at the grassroots level to foster development.
Amongst these channels is Ghetto FM Radio, a station that airs social development messages such as voting education aimed at the youth. Targeting children and youth up to 29 years of age, SIDAREC offers slum residents a cyber café, an online library system and a computer training lab.
