“Life gets better”

14 October 2010

I was moved to tears when I watched this brave politician make a statement about his own struggle during a recent city council meeting. I feel great pride in his courageousness and at the same time, great shame that it takes an act of courage to make such a statement. I am still surprised that we live in a world where we think who people love should have any impact on how we treat them.

There’s a campaign called the It Gets Better Project on YouTube (and on Facebook) that features videos of people sharing stories that life gets better, encouraging LGBTQ young people struggling with finding their place in what can sometimes be a lonely world. In his statement, Joel Burns also points to The Trevor Project, an online resource and a 24-hour-a-day lifeline.

Little by little, life will get better.
