Ballot for Upcoming Sudanese Referendum on Secession

The referendum on southern Sudan’s secession from the north is scheduled for January 9-15, 2011. My student, Cam Wimpy, is in South Sudan to observe the election and collect some data for a pilot project related to his dissertation — and he’s blogging. I won’t be headed to Sudan, but instead will monitor the election in Dallas. Yes, Dallas, TX. Apparently, Dallas has the 2nd-largest Sudanese population in the United States.     Of course, I failed to mention Abiyei in the Problems section. I’m not sure if it’s because (a) it’s probably just going to be an issue that will have to be resolved later; or (b) I’m trying to focus on the positive; or (c) I just plain forgot.

    and, as of today, it looks like the CNN correspondent “in Africa” is also tweeting from Sudan: @McKenzieCNN.
